First Grade

Wow where has the time gone! I have a first grader! It is going to be an adjustment having him gone all day, but you really do better with routine and structure. You are a busy boy and always need to be doing something. All summer you have been telling me you are not excited for school and that it is boring. Even up until the week before you were moaning and groaning about going back. Two days before school started we still had not heard who would be your teacher, but when we went to get the mail there was a postcard from your teacher-to-be Mrs. Gorum. We were estatic! That was who we both had wanted and heard so many wonderful things about! Now you were ready for school to start. The first day you were ready an hour early and all smiles. You only knew one other boy in your class, but that did not phase you-you were stoked to be there and meet new people. I hope that this enthusiasm continues and that you can really learn and grow this year. You have so much potential, just need help channeling it into good things!

Singing

You and I were cleaning your room today and I was singing to the radio. Mason: "Mom, I don't really like your singing. It just really bothers me." Mom: "Oh, ya the people on the radio sound a little bit better huh?" A few minutes later you chime in singing to the radio. Mason: "I don't know why but when I sing it doesn't bother me. Probably because I sing like a rockstar and a birdie so I sound good." Tell it how it is Mas.

When I Grow Up

On the way to school this last week Mason and I had this conversation in the car. Mason: "Mom, I don't think that I want to be a policeman anymore." Me: "How come?" Mason: "It is just too dangerous, maybe I will be a fireman instead. But that is kinda dangerous too." Mom: "Ya it can be. What about a doctor, you would be a really good doctor." Mason: "No, I don't want to be that. I think I will be a construction worker-that would be pretty awesome!" Shoot for the stars Mas, shoot for the stars.

Kindergarten Program

One proud mama here! You did so great at your program today. You said your part loud and clear, sang your heart out and might I add were quite possibly the cutest kid on the stage. I can hardly believe you are almost done with kindergarten-when did you get so big. The last song you sang for your program was "I Like Being Me." I hope you always do like being you, and always try to be the best YOU you can be. You are such a good kid and I am so grateful to be able to call you mine!

Drugs

Today was a typical day for you. Hurry and get home from school, eat and run outside to play. A few hours into playing you come in and tell mom and dad that you have found a bag of drugs down by the neighbors house. My first thought was "What the heck is a bag of drugs doing lying on the ground?" and then I thought "Wait, how would he even know what they look like?" So we ask you to describe what you saw to us and this is what we got: "It was in a small whiten box, lying on the grass. It had M-A-R-L-B-O-R-O written on it." My initial reaction: "Seriously? This kid just saw the box from a distance and came in able to spell Marlboro to me correctly none the less??" And then the follow up of explaining they are cigarettes, whichI have taught him are a drug and bad for our bodies. Oh this boy slays me sometimes!

This Halloween was a little bit of a let down. You were so excited about your costume, friends, trick or treating and family party--but you got super sick the day before and it was all we could do to have enough energy to get in our costume and trick or treat around the rec center.

Let it Snow Let it Snow

We have had a lot of snow this year and some pretty freezing temperatures! Here is our attempt at a Snowfireman!

Gingerbread

Old Fashioned Family Fun

We went sledding. Kinda felt like the Griswalds. Dad was too big and broke the sled, Lexie cried because she got bucked off on the first ride, but you were just happy to be outside playing! It was freezing cold and by the time we were done everyone was frozen from the waist down.
That night we carried on the tradition of the Minivan Express and went to go and see the Christmas lights in the area.

BUDDY our Elf

Saying good-bye to Buddy, so much better than last year!

Deck the Halls

Always fun to set up for Christmas! This year you got to put the "star/snowflake" on top of the tree. A few random Christmas facts about you this year: Fact: Your favorite Christmas movie is Home Alone 3. Fact: Buddy the Elf is back and you couldn't be happier. Fact: Hot chocolate...your favorite on a cold day!
